If you were to ask, “Nick, what’s your favorite song of 2012?”
I’d simply reply “Gods Gone Crazy”

Murs has always been my favorites; he’s always been so insightful and clean. He also possess a quality that’s very undervalued and seldom seen in hip hop nowadays: He spits his rhymes with such clarity, conviction and consciousness.

When I first heard “Gods Gone Crazy” I immediately loved the track. What more could you ask for: smart lyrics and a relaxing beat? Even my dad liked this song…

I’m pleased to inform you all that I’ve gotten a new camera. It’s hard to believe that I’ve FINALLY gone from a point and shoot to an entry level DSLR.

Why’d I go Nikon? (cue classic Canon/Nikon debate)
Well, there were several reasons I chose the d5100. In comparison to its opponent, the Canon T3i, the main pulling factor was the image quality. Yes, the Canon edges the 5100 in HD video capability, but the reason I’m buying a camera in the first place is for the photo taking capability.

So get ready for some quality photos!

Turkey Pesto Grilled Sandwich

The Quick and Dirty Recipe:
You’ll need:
Bread – Could be regular sandwich bread, but not recommended. Get something thicker because it’ll allow for more structure! I use Sourdough
Cheese – Any cheese you’d like – Cheddar, Jack, Pepper Jack, Colby Jack are all fine choices.
Pesto
Sliced Turkey

Directions:
Heat up the turkey meat.
Spread Pesto on slices of bread.
Assemble sandwich as such: Bread, turkey, cheese, turkey, bread.
If you don’t have a sandwich/panini maker here’s how to put the finishing touches:
- Preheat a pan on medium.
- Spread some butter or vegetable oil on the pan and spread around
-Turn the heat to low-medium
- Put the sandwich on the pan.
- Once one side is brown enough for you, flip over and repeat. The purpose is to get the cheese melty

Now feast!

Here at Effobe, we like to celebrate Asian American culture. So its no surprise that we’re going to be talking and Jeremy Lin.

The Asian part of me is so happy for this guy. He’s Asian, he’s from the Bay Area, he played for the Warriors, and damn, he can play ball. His story is VERY inspirational, and I’m glad he has brought so much positivity to the league. He’s humble, and does not take this opportunity for granted. The classic underdog example, I’m glad the Asian American has someone to relate to in the league.

As for the Yao Ming comparisons? There are very little. Yao’s accomplishments extend past the court. He pioneered the sport across international borders. I’m not trying to belittle what Lin is capable of doing, its just that Yao and Lin are so different in many ways.

Now, the skeptical basketball fan in me can only think one thing – “Okay, those are some impressive stat lines. Can he keep this up when Melo and Amar’e come back?” I’m hoping for the best. If he can spread the ball and limit his turnovers, he truly is the savior (and PG for that matter) that the Knicks have dreamt of.

This is THE BEST fried chicken I’ve had to date.
Went there because I had a groupon, and now will be going everytime I’m in the LA area. It was so great that after we used our groupon for lunch, we ordered 20 more pieces to go!

All the reviews I’ve read on yelp say the chicken was too greasy–mine was not. It was perfect. Crispy delicious skin, juicy chicken…not much more you can say. Very, very tasty all around. Trumps Popeyes easily.

Fries were great, the sauces were great, the biscuits were amazing tasty as well.

The place itself isn’t as bad as you would think. It was very clean inside and the people working there were very friendly. My girlfriend and I were the only ones eating in as a lot of people opt to take out. I also absolutely loved the music they played there: Motown, Soul, and R&B. Great song selections!

I know what you’re thinking: “Compton? Are you serious?”
Believe me, that’s how I felt when my girlfriend said she’d bought a groupon for a fried chicken joint in Compton. I went in the afternoon (around 2 PM) and it was fairly quiet on Alondra. Not much foot traffic. There’s parking in the back, but its on a dirt road with no lines. I chose to park on the street. There’s an area where you can park on the street that you can see from the window from inside the restaurant. Compton in the day time didn’t seem as dangerous as one would think. I’d advise going in the daytime, or if you’re later that you order out.

We welcome you to 2012!

I guess it would be appropriate to have a New Year’s resolution. I guess mine would be to take more photos. Actually, it would be to take more photos, and be able to properly organize them. What’s your resolution?

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas from the Effobe Team!

Steak Fries with Sirloin and Chimichurri

This fat squirrel was in the backyard. He couldn’t see me watch him from behind the window, but damn, he was going after those nuts. This is by far the fattest squirrel I’ve ever seen.

The team at Effobe would like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
